Basil Sharaf is a senior financial services professional with experience in capital markets and asset management, including wealth management, private equity transactions, capital-raising, structured trades, and product development.
Basil joined AVANA Capital in 2014 to develop the firm’s institutional fundraising strategy. Prior to joining AVANA, Basil was with The Family Office, a multi-family office, where he was responsible for the creation, communication, and implementation of sustainable strategic and business development initiatives. This included managing the development of innovative programs and services, assessing the market to identify emerging trends, and recommending new initiatives to grow the business.
Basil also spent several years at Arcapita, a private equity firm, as part of the global investment placement team responsible for creating the firm’s institutional fund platform and distribution strategy. Previously, he was with FBR Capital Markets’ energy investment banking team in Washington D.C. Additionally, he spent over six years with Legg Mason’s Corporate and Executive Services Group in Baltimore, where he was originating and executing equity derivative transactions and structured products for the firm’s high net worth and corporate clients. Basil has also held client and business development positions in Riyadh and London, focusing on the Middle East region.
Basil holds an MBA in International Business from The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations/Economics from the University of Delaware.
